Saints 1-0 London City Lionesses

St Marys, 16/04/2023

We arrived at the stadium expecting a tough game, with London City being second in the league at the start of play.

Once we were seated I noticed a DJ booth set up right in front of us, which didn’t bode well. As it turned out the electronic tosh didn’t last long as the booth was carried away and the Saints band appeared.

I quite liked the band at the start of the game, but would get annoyed by one of them as the game got going.

At the start of play, this was top against third. We’ve seen Saints play London City in a couple of friendlies either side of the Covid interruptions, the first was a narrow loss, the second was a draw. Now it was the real thing.

The only problem was we weren’t going to be able to listen to much of it as we had a day of furniture moving to do. So by the time the game kicked off I had been battered and bruised moving a huge sofa down three flights of stairs periodically being smashed into a wall by a 6’6’’ American from the Bronx. Being bigger and stronger than me as I struggled to keep hold of the sofa, he would shift it and I’d be slammed into the wall again. Amazingly my glasses, which were knocked off my face more than once, didn’t break, and unlike the wall my face didn’t end up with a big dent in it. My shoulders were hurting, my hands were sore, but one sofa had been taken to the dump, along with a lot of our garage contents, and another three big armchairs moved from one house to another.
